The Better Business Bureau Congratulates the 2010 Torch Award Nominees
Because Ethics Matter
CENTRAL ILLINOIS – March 12, 2010 – The Board of Directors of the Better Business Bureau, serving Central Illinois, established the annual BBB Torch Award in 1999 to recognize those firms whose business practices and related activities exemplify the BBB’s mission and principles. Only the BBB gives an award based on ethics and integrity. The Torch Awards in Central Illinois is open to the 36 county service area of the BBB, and is available Accredited and Non-Accredited Businesses. An independent panel of volunteer community leaders will select the recipients based on criteria established by the BBB. The recipient of the award will be presented at the annual Torch Award Ceremony. The recipient of the BBB Torch Award will be eligible to be entered in the International Torch Awards through the council of BBB’s in Washington D.C.

Nominations were received via call for entries published in the Journal Star and on the BBB website. Some companies received multiple nominations. All nominees will receive an application to complete and submit. Candidates for the 2010 Better Business Bureau Torch Award will be judged on their ethical practices according to the following guidelines within their size of business category:
•High ethical standards of behavior toward customers, suppliers, users, shareholders, employees, and the communities in which they do business;
•Long-standing history/reputation of ethical practices in the marketplace;
•Ethics policies that are effectively communicated to employees;
•Ethics policies that are designed to give long-term value to shareholders and customers
A distinguished panel of judges will choose the finalists for the award will, to be announced in April, and the winner of the 2010 Torch Awards will be announced
at the ceremony on May 6 2010 at the Hotel Pere Marquette. The BBB of Central Illinois will be celebrating 90 years of Delivering Trust to Central Illinois at this year’s event. The BBB will welcome Steve Cox, President of the Council of Better Business Bureaus as the guest speaker at the event. Other awards to be presented at the event will be, the Jeff Bell Customer Service Award, Arbitrator of the Year, Partners in Trust, and the Truth in Advertising Award.
